Art Beats Work!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Milton Glaser this weekend…he was a hero to me and so many other aspiring (student) graphic designers in the late 60s and early 70s. He was not just a stunning designer but also a superb illustrator…a true artist. And he never stopped working….Why would you when you’re that good.

Mr Glaser passed away on Friday on Friday on his 91st birthday.

July Flame is a Peach!

All of Laura Veirs’ albums are superb but ‘July Flame’, now in its 10th Anniversary year is one that I keep coming back to.

All the songs on this album work seamlessly as a whole. Slightly eccentric (and great) instrumentation and beautiful harmonies behind Laura’s lovely voice and guitar.

And great cover art by Carson Ellis.

Lucy’s Portrait

My watercolour portrait of Lucy, one of our NHS heroes, which I gave to her yesterday, on her birthday.

Many thanks Lucy and also thanks to Tom Croft for the inspiration.

The man who invented Rock and Roll

Little Richard Wayne Penniman: December, 1932 - May 9, 2020

Bob Dylan posted:

“my shining star and guiding light back when I was only a little boy. His was the original spirit that moved me to do everything I would do,”

NHS Heroine

Working on a portrait of Lucy, a good friend of my daughter and an NHS key worker. This was of course inspired by the portrait painter Tom Croft’s initiative: ‘Portraits for NHS Heroes’.

Using Zoom and an iPad; I haven’t worked this way before but we’ll see how it goes.

Songs for Jack

‘Songs for a Tailor’ was the first solo album by the much missed multi-instrumentalist and incredible bass player ( of Cream ) Jack Bruce, who died in 2014. Great songs with surreal lyrics by Pete Brown with Jack Bruce’s amazing vocals and recorded with a great band……I still have my original copy from 1969 which I still love, as much as the 19 year old me did.
