“Opinions vary on what the difference is between painting and illustration.
I think that all illustrators are artists, but not all artists are illustrators.
Paintings can be executed purely for the act of painting, while illustrations are generally carried out in order to express a concept or idea and to fit within specific parameters as required by a client.
As a watercolourist, I love the immediacy and simplicity of this unique medium and while it’s true that all of my paintings are made of paint, paper and water, some of them can be illustrations too.
For my illustration work I now also embrace the flexibility that is made available with software such as Corel Painter and Procreate.”
