Chris has carried out many commissions covering a wide range of subjects including landscapes, portraits, interiors, music and automotive.

The commission procedure usually consists of five stages:

Stage One: Chris will meet the client to discuss the requirements for the commissioned work and establish relevant details including content, dimensions and timings. Chris will take notes to establish all the details of the proposed painting including content, dimensions and timings. 
In the case of a portrait, Chris may take some initial reference photographs and if convenient, execute a few rough sketches so that he can prepare a visual of what the final painting might look like.

Stage Two: Chris will present some sketches of the proposed painting for the client’s comments and approval. Chris will organise any sittings or appointments with the client in order to compile his sketches and reference shots and will commence work on the painting.
A total fee for the final completed painting will also be proposed at this point and upon the client’s agreement, a payment will be required amounting to 50% of the total agreed fee for the commission.

Stage Three: Chris will combine pencil and watercolour sketches with reference photographs to work out the final specifications of the final painting.

Stage Four: Having arranged the final composition, Chris will create a pencil drawing of the finished piece, prepared at the actual size of the final work. This will be presented to the client and upon its approval the commissioned painting will be carried out and completed within the agreed deadline.

Stage Five: The finished work will be presented to the client for approval prior to framing.

The cost for framing is not included within the quoted fee of the commission. If framing is required, this can be discussed and organised during the commission process.

Commissions vary in price and start at a cost of £1500 plus VAT. Paintings which contain multiple portraits (for example, a group of people) or which have a requirement for a complex content will be reflected in the price.
